Throwback Thursday- Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge Alice Temperley Black Lace Evening Dress

Any royal watcher will know that Kate loves to wear lace. And one of her favorite designers is Alice Temperley, who just so happens to create really beautiful lace overlay pieces. This particular Temperley gown was worn by the duchess on her official visit to the Natural History Museum in London in December of 2013. I think that Kate’s preference for lacy gowns and cocktail dresses is probably one of the biggest reasons why we have seen a surge in lace dresses and blouses the past few years. She is quite a trendsetter! Here is a close-up view of the lace detail and velvet bow belt on her evening gown, she was holding 3D glasses because the exhibit at the museum was in 3D.

A Temperley dress can cost about $7,000-$8,000 and this specific dress sold out a long time ago. So I am pretty proud of myself that I found a really, really similar dress for under $100 and it is beautiful quality, too. It is described as a “bridesmaids dress” but I think it would be suitable for many occasions as an evening dress or a winter formal/prom dress. It’s elegant and classy but still a little sexy too. Sometimes lace can come across as a little grandmotherly but definitely not this dress. I love it!

Kate likes to wear black LK Bennett pumps with the dress that are about $350 but these Nine West pumps are similar. They are elegant and under $100.

By the way, this was not the only time Kate wore this dress, so it must be one of her favorites. She also wore it for the premiere of War Horse. But the only exception is that she accessorized with a bright red clutch bag. I would recommend something like this Coach (picture is a link).

I hope that you love this look as much as I do! Happy Thursday!
Cheers,
The Frugal Lady
